Romanian imprint Ruere Records is home to a number of young artists that are in the process of taking minimal in new and exciting directions and the calibre of their productions belies their young years. One such artist is Adrian Niculae aka Priku.
A name that has been on the scene for a number of years now, but is still a young man and very much on the rise. His 2 track EP ‘Hip Hip Cin Cin’ on Ruere Records finds Priku very much in hypnotic mode and more so on the A1 track ‘Dincolo de fatada’. Priku settles on several complimenting components and expertly snakes them alongside an undulating bassline and organ stabs in and out of the mix throughout the track to great effect.
Being able to take a fairly stripped track and progressively unveil the track over 9 minutes plus is a skill that just simply cannot be taught. With no main theme to speak of other than the quicksand thick bassline and repeating stabs, this track has such an infectious groove that will still manage to stick in the head even during a set packed full of highlights. This ability to let each part of the track breathe regardless of its simplicity before allowing the next to take centre stage is a deft skill that seems to come naturally to this group of new producers.
