Berlin-based label EWax have never been ones to rush anything and put out tracks for the sake of it, with each release carefully curated to the delight of the listeners. Hot off the heels from the success of Alex Ground and Jamahr’s Signs EP last month, they’ve handed the baton to rising artist Marcu Rares for their new EWax White Series.
If the name rings a bell, it’s more than likely because you’ve checked out the Romanian artist out on Bandcamp. A simple glance at his page reveals how prolific a producer he’s been and an EP on wax feels very overdue.
With that in mind, here at Trommel we’re incredibly pleased to premiere the A side ‘Lunatique’ of Marcu’s Lunatique EP.
The track is distinctive from the get-go and a little different to what you may expect to be released on EWax. This is in a completely positive manner, though. With the first three minutes being occupied by blissful piano keys, scintillating female vocals and some absolutely killer deep keys.
The first base drum doesn’t come in until three minutes in but no one should be complaining. What follows is six minutes of esoteric synths and surefire dancefloor, perfect for closing out the night and tugging on the heartstrings of those left on the dancefloor.
Also featuring on the EP is a more straight forward club rework from label owner YSC for those more interested in no-nonsense dancefloor grooves. If this EP is a sign of things to come for Marcu Rares, then we have yet another exciting Romanian talent entering the scene.
