Premiere: B1 – Dubfound – Flows Into Jazz (Purplehummer remix) [AM05]

For the fifth installment of Belgian imprint aNBu they welcome long-serving Moldovan minimal artist Dubfound to their growing family. Having been active since 2012 Dubfound has always found homes on the likes of Pleasure Zone, Sleep Is Commercial and Nervmusic as well as his own Swoon and Nurum Music labels.

Being a regular on the world minimal scene for some time has meant his productions have found their way into the sets of all the big hitters and so it is no surprise to see the immediate popularity of his ‘Flows Into Jazz’ three-tracker on aNBu. The title track and A1 is suitably jazzy with synth wiggles and off-key piano chords and keys featuring heavily throughout. ‘Sophisticated Sparrow’ on A2 is a slightly more straight forward but also benefits from a moodier delivery from the minimal realm. Helped by distorted vocals, lo-fi blips, and bleeps A2 is a twisted piece of minimalism that contrasts nicely from the more musical A1.

Moving over to our pick of the release on B1, Purplehummer aka Sammy Dee picks apart ‘Flows Into Jazz’ and restyles it in a much more micro direction. Where the original featured flourishing keys and chords Sammy Dee retains part of these musical elements but in a much more muted and sparing way. The tumbling beats and blooming pads assert a much more free form groove that will easily allow a set to go in a much more leftfield direction. It is really only around halfway through the track that a recognizable 4/4 pattern is introduced by way of a drifting off-beat hi-hat. Look for Sammy Dee’s work here is a perfect example of just how twisted the soundtrack can get at Get Perlonized’s many editions
