Chris Stussy steps up for the 26th release of Constant Sound.
Continuing a fine streak of form after releases for FUSE’s recently featured project LOCUS, as well as making his debut on Eastenderz, the Amsterdam native brings fresh heat from the studio in this four-track EP.
‘Take A Leap Of Faith’ brings a lively vibe to open the record. A nimble, elastic bassline wraps itself around a slinky drum palate loading the track with drive. Short, skippy snares give the track a lean, garagey bounce gifting space to the lush, dream-state pads glowing overhead.
An eloquent amount of details is lathered carefully around each element, allowing for the dubby warmth of the low end to carry the track. Drums cut through with a neat crispness, whilst layers of sound grow in subtleties throughout the arrangement, occasionally blending textures and nifty sample work.
Soft female vocal blips occasionally breeze between beats with a classy charm, sculpting an elegant mood, packed with club hungry punch.
Frequent studio partners Burnski & Michael James return to the imprint with a pacey remix of the title track, under their Relic alias. Rich chords bend over a swung groove offering a more heads-down vibe to the original cut, without losing their memorable garagey charm, similar to that heard in their works for Romania’s OGE imprint.
Stussy strikes again in his conclusive original cuts, boasting a mean bassline in ‘Point Lama’, dripping in warm, hopeful atmospheres, before wrapping up with the ‘Limerence’s quirky funk workout in the B2.
Burnski expresses his various tastes in dance music via a number of labels and off-shoots, hosting a home for house and garage flavours via Constant Sound and Instinct, as well as running Constant Black and Infiltrate, focusing on more minimalist and electro driven themes.
