Barbatus D.Wreckords (what a name!) is a new label headed by Solar Punk from Quinoa Experience, and they’ve chosen Brent to launch their first release. We’re promised “elements inspired by 80’s electro, seasoned with dramatic synths, melodic basslines, and ghostly vocals”. Let’s break it down track by track.
The main one, “Privacy In A Public Time,” is an epic electro-house banger that kicks off with perfect chords, followed by a diabolical bassline buzz, and finishes with a sprinkle of vocals. At certain moments, it sounds more like a synth-pop record, rather than sticking strictly to electro-house—and that can’t be a bad thing, right?
Next up is “Part Of New World,” which is a bit shorter and lighter but feels like something Kavinsky might have produced between “Nightcall” and “Testarossa Autodrive.” Then there’s “First Of The Winter Soleros,” which starts more seriously…until the guitars come in. Without them, it would be a perfect tool for darker sets, but with them, you might want to get your Testarossa out of the garage before pressing play. The EP closes with “Room 904,” wrapping everything up into an epic synthy EP for your collection of bangers.
Barbatus D.Wreckords’ first release is already out for grabs at all good record shops. Juno, Deejay, Decks—just pick one and go.
