Premiere: A1 – BootyBart – BootyBart 04.1 [BOOTYBART04]

The mysterious vinyl-only label BootyBart returns with their fourth release.

This Italian project lets the music do the talking, hosting very little information online besides a trio of sample-based minimal jams hiking in price on Discogs. It’s the classic unknown artist approach that minimalist club music gained a reputation for in the rise of the sub-genre, pushing music before artist identity and design.

Simple, well-pressed white labels host two solid club cuts on each side, and there’s very few copies available worldwide. The fourth release continues this purist vision, shaping three sample-driven tracks leaning on minimal and tribal influences stretching out in longer form compositions.

We zoom into the 11-minute meander on the A-side, classically untitled, diving into a world of intricate sound design. Complex percussion hosts multiple layers, merging acoustic bongo-like sounds with snappy claps and hi-hats that create this infectious, loopy groove central to the stripped-back side of club music.

A subtle ‘You give me love’ vocal sample eventually grows into the groove, bringing a sense of playfulness and relatability that feels very inspired by Ricardo Villalobos and his work within similar realms. The sample brings an almost latin-inspired vibe to the mix, you can imagine a luscious Sunwaves sunset being soundtracked by this moreish-minimal jam. It’s no surprise the track occupies the entire A-side, singing on for over 11 minutes.

Samples remain at the heart of the jams on the flip, moving into a field of electro-leaning influences in the B1. More acoustic percussion firms up the rhythm with peculiar, elastic-like textures that are sure to come to life on a nice sound system. Vocals are front and centre again in this jam with a male narration that feels somewhat ceremonial and cryptic in it’s nature. A thick double bass sound eventually evolves into a subtle electro bassline, slotting between snappy snare drums in this unique mood setting track.

The closing track brings arguably the most energy, working a breakbeat and acid-fuelled structure with a classic sample. Subtle piano and bass notes wash over the mix with ease in this classy cut. You can picture the likes of Petre Inspirescu swinging this one out. Elegant, intriguing and deep, the vibe is infectious. I’m sure many will recognise the piano loop, something that has been sampled many times before in movies and TV which I can’t put my finger on.

BootyBart continue a fine streak of form in this forth release which will likely soon be joining the previous releases hiking in price on Discogs.
