It’s a special thing when a promoter’s label perfectly reflects the spirit and sound of the parties they host. Now onto their fifth release, French label and promoter BinarySound are beginning to carve out that special relationship. With headhoncho Antoine Sy presenting his ‘Laserbroz’ EP for the label’s fifth release.
Something has been brewing in Paris since 2013 and title track ‘Laserbroz’ sounds as though it perfectly encapsulates what the BinarySound crew’s parties are like. With guests such as Francesco Del Garda, Onur Ozer, and, Nicolas Lutz, the residents are beginning to shine through, via the music they put out on the label and breaking out into the wider musical world.
Laserbroz introduces itself with a set of thudding drums with an infectious groove to them, splashing glossy stabs of pads and vocals repurposed as drums. But it’s with the introduction of playful key progressions that you realise Laserbroz hasn’t even gotten started yet, with a mind-burrowing catchy bass dominating proceedings, only to be broken up by Antoine’s penchant for catchy keys before you’re begging for that bouncing bass to come back.
Accompanying Laserbroz is fellow A-sider ‘Carpet Paradise’, which capitalises on Lasebroz’s playfulness and kicks it up a few notches with it’s ever-evolving retro-futurist bassline, accompanied by a dash of acid before delving into a down ‘n’ dirty track. On the B-side, Que Les Chiens might just take the crown of most creative dancefloor track of the year so far, accompanying that signature vintage Sy bass and swinging drums is a collection of chopped up vocals that progress through octaves to create an extra layer of swing and quirk. ‘Open Your Mind’ rounds off the vinyl release with a menacing bounce to it, and digital buyers are treated to a bonus track, ‘Listening Comprehension’, best suited for wonky and intimate afterparties.
