Ask most top flight underground artists who their favourite DJ is and more often than not they will, without hesitation utter the name Kosta Athanassiadis. Better known as XDB, the German producer and selector is known the world over for his dubby, introspective productions just as much as his fathoms deep record selections. Expertly trained in the art of subtlety, XDB exhibits mystical powers of restraint in all facets of his work and thus rewarding the patient with magical moments that become talking points forever more. For a snapshot of this long form approach look no further than his 2020 “Inspiron” longplayer, and with each track making full use of its allotted run time. Like all his work, there is no filler here, everything is done with purpose and deep meaning.
Of course XDB’s discography extends way back into the history books of house and techno and will continue well into the future, but it is often Kosta’s otherworldly DJ sets that often live rent free in people’s minds. A constant force in the world community, XDB is an artist that consistently blows minds and so we honoured to welcome him to our mix series. Most assuredly a masterclass in stripped back electronic soul music that sees Kosta shift between afterhour moods and hard to find minimal gems.
