Having been a permanent fixture at Sunwaves for some time now, Romanian maestro Cezar is regularly called upon to put the finishing touches to the bi yearly marathon. For the huge 30th anniversary edition he was slap bang in the middle of the long weekend nestled in-between Rhadoo and Petre Inspirescu. Cezar is one of a few acts who is capable of standing out from selectors of this calibre with the kind of track choices that leave even the most seasoned clubber wide eyed and jaw agape.
As well as releasing on genre defying labels such as Amphia, Draganeneii, and Acme, Cezar is also the driving force behind experimental techno imprint The Understand. Beginning way back in 2011, Cezar launched his own vision for the minimal techno sound with own “Din Gând În Când” EP and from that moment on his imprint became unmissable with prices quickly sky rocketing on Discogs. His label also became an early home for the Romanian elite that includes Praslesh, Rhadoo, Arapu, Dubtil, and Amorf. Running in tandem with this main arm of the label is the Live Series of which has been taken care of in the past by Romanian super group Amorf.
This lynchpin of the Bucharest underground is a master of suspense and draws the dancefloor deeper with each cut that is unearthed from his record bag before introducing the next unfindable gem. Any mix from Cezar is worth its weight in gold but with this being the first in over 10 years this cause for celebration. The Romanian chops in tracks to help build the mix to fever point before unleashing the next bass bomb, but instead holds back the gratification for a few more bars. The result is deadly. If this tickles your fancy (and we are certain it definitely will) you can catch the man in action at UNUM Festival in a few weeks time. If that isn’t worth the trip to the golden beaches of Albania we don’t know what is?
