Collaborative owner of Uruguayan collective Phonoteque Recordings, Christian pulls absolutely no punches with his music. Extremes ranging from the utterly stunning to the downright dastardly, and the tracks he uses to paint his pictures are outrageous. Having rinsed Hoppetosse when he stepped up for our last showcase there last year we couldn’t wait to have something down and recorded from him and to share it with you all.
Incredibly, Phonoteque is just another part of the bigger picture from Christian as his club Serpientes Y Escaleras is equally as divergent as it is influential. His tones are well known all around the underground from London, to Frankfurt, and back via quite a few stop offs in between. Stripped back but packed to the brim with in-your-face attitude and swagger, a PH track is instantly recognisable and given the rep it deserves. Taking glittering elements from 80’s electro, 90’s house and 00’s techno and melding it together with South American flair to form a whole new fire breathing beast. Fresh from celebrating Phonoteque’s tenth anniversary this is a perfect time to really get to know Christian and his many sounds.
Captivating from the first beat, Christian reaches depths of his recording seldom find, edging out a particular feeling with pitch black synth tones, crunchy riddims, and basslines too rude to mention. We don’t say this lightly, but this mix should come with a warning it is so deadly. An elusive talent that ensures mounting quality with each passing bar of this mix, give this plenty of time to enjoy.
