Trommel.156 – Phil Evans

Co-founder of the Offenbach based label Pager Records always offers something a little bit different in his musical styling. If it doesn’t have that certain funk or edge it just doesn’t make the cut. With a classic deep house sound at his core Evans sways between analogue breaks, more peak time bangers and hazy afternoon jams but always with a phat bassline underpinning the whole situation. If it is at all possible his bombs are room filling house but with a shimmering quality that few from the nu-skool are capable of. His recent ‘S-Mile’ LP is a true testament to this.

Not to say that Phil has not cut his teeth as he is an old head when it comes to the most discerning floors in the world and regularly is in charge of the best parties in Europe. Having also launched his own Freizeit Records imprint which started life as a second record store has now evolved into a bonafide label. True to form the label has now birthed two solo EP’s from Phil and boil over with all the future funk house meets speaker bursting basslines that he is very well known for. This is exactly what he has in store on his offering for our mix series and we are all the better for it.
