Australian duo Ritmiq and Lewba hailing from Sydney’s underground, each with their own distinct path to the floor — and together, a combination worth paying attention to. Having linked up on last year’s Motion Potion Records’ split EP, their track “Transmitting from Space” signalled the culmination of hours of studio work.
Singularly, Ritmiq has spent the past several years quietly becoming one of the most consistent names on the Australian circuit. His diverse diary speaks for itself — S.A.S.H residencies, Chinese Laundry, Golden Gate in Berlin, alongside the likes of Steve Bug, Tom Trago, Osunlade, Laidlaw, Silverlining and OK Williams. From intimate bar sessions and wine and wax afternoons to festival stages and five-hour solo sets, the range is genuine and the bookings have been earned the right way. A selector who moves comfortably across house and deeper territories without ever losing the thread.
Lewba operates from a different, but equally committed corner of the same scene. A key figure in the Qualia nights and the driving force behind Sydney’s Pipin’ Hot and Brighter Days, he has built his reputation on something increasingly rare — 100% vinyl, every time, no exceptions. A vast and carefully assembled collection, deployed with full attention to the floor and no compromise on taste. Warehouse parties, festivals and club nights across NSW have all been on the receiving end of what he does, and the results are always the same: good music, played well, for people who came to dance.
We welcome the pair to our Free Download series where they turn in the deep, brooding groover “Studio 1” that speaks to both artists strengths. Stripped back rhythms keep things tight while the stretched out pads elongate proceedings. Probing bass tones peek into the depths of the track while the spacey synth noodles give light to the track.
