French artist Antoine Sy has become a pillar of the French scene and the legacy that he is building in solo and collaborative mode is becoming sizeable. His Binary Sound project, which turned the grand age of ten this year, has also taken him many places including a ten year anniversary tour which stopped off at UMI in Brussels, La Trabendo in Paris, Red58 in Barcelona, and the last date recently at London’s Star Lane Pizza Bar. There is also the newer project that he shares with fellow Frenchman and rapidly rising artist Bassam, combining as ANTAM they also curate a label of the same name and this should not be news to avid readers of these pages.
Commanding a powerful stance, “Noir Brilliant” for our Free Download series is straight out of the blocks with an undulating sub bass that grips the track from the underside and does not let go. Wiggling synths scatter about the track as if produced by seismic activity caused by the bassline and the thunderous snare that could threaten the integrity of any speaker. The crystalline synths and vocoded vocal that soon become a major part of the action give serious nods to Antoine’s electro chops, but you already spotted that. Stripped back and hard hitting, just the way Antoine likes it, we most definitely agree with him.
