The month of October marks the anniversary of a rather special institution, one of the finest and most respected clubs in the UK. Historically such an occasion was celebrated by an extended session towards the end of the month that would start on a Saturday and continue right through to Monday morning – a rare taste of the more open approach to clubbing that we usually only get to experience internationally in places like Berlin or Amsterdam.
As fabric take stock of the last two decades however, it seems one weekend of birthday party just won’t be enough. Instead, the celebrations span across the whole month. We’re already a week in and some of the finest fabric xxtended parties are yet to come.
Of course, no fabric birthday would quite be complete without one of its longest and most revered residents, Ricardo Villalobos at the helm. The minimal magician is joined by another firm favourite of the club Raresh, for a special Sunday session on 20th October. Expect an extended back to back blend of some of the juiciest Romanian bits, bags full of weird and wonderful techno and a few classic bangers thrown in for good measure. And remember to book the Monday off work.
The festivities continue into November and on Saturday 2nd, you’ll find Margaret Dygas and Nicolas Lutz covering the night shift alongside residents Craig Richards and Bobby. Lutz and Richards join heads once more, another much loved back to back from Room One, a performance which promises to showcase some of the deepest, dirtiest sounds to come out of said room.
It’s not to say that the 30 hours on and on party won’t be missed. Anyone who’s attended can vouch it was something quite special; the type of party where you could catch Villalobos playing three different sets across the weekend; morning, day and night. That said, there really is plenty to pick at here for the 20th celebrations and it’s likely across the bunch, the artists will be bringing their A game as they honour the anniversary of one of their favourite clubbing institutions.
