Astral Travel is the meeting point of two distinct creative paths. A collaborative project between Anthea and Oshana, two DJs and producers who as individual artists have long since resonated across the underground. Together, they have found not just a shared musical identity, but also a personal connection that runs deeper than their affinity to the dancefloor. A relationship, built over years of friendship and love, which celebrates the best of each of their worlds. From the DJ booth, to the studio and far beyond.
For both artists, the story begins with early moments of music discovery. “My earliest memory is buying Crystal Waters’ ‘Gypsy Woman’ on cassette,” recalls Oshana. “I kept rewinding it because I was obsessed with the sound. With limited access to electronic music at the time, I began hunting for anything I could find – that’s really how my digging habit began.” For Anthea, the spark came by chance. “I first discovered electronic music while skipping class with someone who played me Richie Hawtin’s ‘Decks, EFX & 909’. I’d mainly listened to urban music before, but that mix sparked a deep curiosity that led me to explore the scene and buy my first pair of decks.”
Their paths eventually crossed years later. “We connected online through our friend Randall M., who shared Oshana’s ‘Acid Disco’ with me,” Anthea explains. “That track caught my ear, leading to more exchanges and eventually a shared musical journey.” But it wasn’t just about the music, with both of them connecting on a personal level too. A closeness which naturally began also to shape a creative chemistry behind the decks, ultimately leading to their musical collaboration. “Every back-to-back set felt so natural that we decided to perform together as Astral Travel, named after one of Oshana’s album tracks.”
From the outset, Astral Travel was never about reinventing either artist’s identity, but instead about celebrating a shared passion, forming a new and cohesive sound along the way. “Astral Travel reflects our shared approach to DJing, which is a journey from start to finish that blends our favorite styles,” they explain. “Over time, our sound has become more refined and intentional. With our platform Psionic, we’ve focused on curating deeper, more mature sets that are tailored to each event.”
Their dynamic as an artistic duo is based on balance and mutual respect. Anthea brings a sense of direction and curation, while Oshana drives more the technical side. “The studio nerd,” they laugh. “It’s a true partnership. We balance each other, giving space for both voices to shine. Over time, we’ve learned when to lead and when to step back, which has strengthened our dynamic.” No doubt this sense of trust and cohesion stems from their personal relationship, flowing through the music.
If there was ever a defining moment for Astral Travel, it was their performance at ADE’s Loft, during Anthea’s Partisan showcase. “That was our turning point,” says Oshana. “We combined Anthea’s A&R picks with timeless techno and progressive gems from my collection. That blend of old and new has since become our signature.”
In many ways, Astral Travel’s universe is shaped by the labels that orbit around them. “Psionic focuses on established artists and late-night sounds; Partisan champions emerging talent and peak-time energy. With Pillz, we explore deeper, more underground material. Together, they represent the full spectrum of music we play and love, which is the fusion of old and new.” Although each platform comes from a different angle, they meet in the middle, forming a complete set.
As long-time figures in the underground, both have witnessed its evolution firsthand. “The biggest shift is how image now rivals artistry,” they say. “Especially post-COVID, when social media took center stage. Many sets focus on instant impact rather than storytelling, but we remain dedicated to crafting a journey – taking the energy up and down to keep depth and emotion alive in our sets.” That sense of storytelling is what defines their performances, immersive sets built not around trends, but around flow.
Behind the scenes, the pair maintain an ethos of strict time keeping to help keep their many projects aligned. “We reserve weekdays for label work, off-weekends for the studio, and weekends for touring,” they explain. “It’s a constant balancing act, but knowing our rhythms and working styles helps keep things in check.”
Individually, both artists have reached a place of creative clarity. “I feel closer than ever to the artist I’ve always wanted to be,” reflects Oshana. “Each year brings growth and clarity about my sound. Together, we’re focused on building Astral Travel’s identity and making each performance stronger, while moving beyond “Anthea b2b Oshana” to being recognized as one.”
For Anthea, she is equally fulfilled. “I’m at a point where I feel truly understood as an artist. I’m valued for my versatility and adaptability. I thrive on challenges and each year brings new opportunities to grow. I’m focused on elevating my label, events and festival stage curation. And with Astral Travel, I’m excited for more studio time with Oshana and taking our sound to new stages worldwide.”
That next chapter is already taking shape. “Next up is the SOTTOSUONO + Alzaya Showcase in Milan,” they share. “We’re excited to play alongside artists who’ve inspired us. We’re also upgrading our studio to make it more conducive to jamming, which should lead to new music as touring slows down and Berlin winter sets in.”
At its core, Astral Travel is about more than just two artists playing back to back. It’s a shared journey, determined by the trust and intimacy that comes from being both life and creative partners. A rare connection that emanates a most personal touch, through all aspects of their work.
