Antwerp-based musical venture Oridoo by DJs and producers Hofmann and Yela, was born out of the desire to create a community completely centred around one united goal: to strip everything back and focus on the simplest but most important things, quality selections, good sound and good lighting, all together setting the desirable mood.
Taking up bi-monthly residence in a hidden and unique underground space in the historical centre of Antwerp, Oridoo is a refreshing concept aiming to take the music back to its essence. Where the entire night is centered around the united sense of feeling, belonging, release or excitement through experiencing dance music exactly as it should be. Without any distraction. This means no phones, limited talking and looking after each other is, therefore, a mantra the Oridoo team stick strongly to for every single edition and hopes to pass on to other event organisers.
“To guarantee this united feeling, we have a clear Oridoo door policy, a guideline to (try to) make sure everyone is taking care of themselves, everyone is in sync, to be kind to each other, to leave your phone in your pocket, to respect the dancefloor and your fellow dancers and keep talking on the dancefloor to a minimum.” Says Hofmann, co-founder of the concept.
Both avid diggers and music lovers, Jelle and Arnaud longed for events in their hometown that left people with that warm after-glow every good night out should provide. The concept isn’t about ego, it’s about letting the music and the overall vibe speak for itself. From the hand-drawn artworks to announce every edition, to poetic recaps, there’s an unmatched attention to detail that you don’t often find in today’s music scene.
“The artists we book are thoughtfully selected to create well-curated line-ups. There’s a personal approach to our booking process, to ensure each artist has the most comfortable experience pre, during and post-event. This goes from giving them the most comfortable, vinyl friendly, and cosy booth to bring their own artform to life in the best possible way.” Says co-founder Yela.
“We’ve created quite the Oridoo family over this past year. Seeing many people return and growing our pool of now trusted volunteers and friends with every new edition.” – Adds Hofmann.
With this in mind, Oridoo now prepare for their next magical instalment at Pelgrimstraat 15 and true to form they have worked hard on the lineup to ensure a truly fresh and unique experience. As well as the resident pairing of Hofmann and Yela on the teamsheet will also be Parisian artist Wendy and her name is firmly on the lips of promoters and clubbers across Europe and America. Completing the lineup is fellow Frenchman Brassac and through his recent sets for the likes of Beautiful Freaks in Brussels and od:vod in Ljubljana the Oridoo team had no option but extend an invite to this eclectic selector.
Oridoo has garnered a reputation not only for its musical curation but also for fostering a unique sense of community that resonates with its attendees. The space itself transforms into a sanctuary for pure musical experience, where the focus is not just on dancing but on connecting with the energy of the room. Whether it’s the deep grooves flowing through the sound system or the subtle but intentional lighting that sets the tone, every element comes together to create something timeless. For those looking to experience the essence of what nightlife should truly feel like, Oridoo offers an unforgettable journey.
