Carmo Rooftop celebrates Santos Populares with Anthea & Woody

Anthea @ Santos Populares

There’s nothing quite like dancing at height in the glistening sun. Couple that with sweeping views across one of Europe’s most captivating capitals and you have yourself a prime location for a party. Carmo Rooftop is without doubt one of Lisbon’s most spectacular settings for the dance, perched beside the historic ruins of the Carmo Convent, one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks. It’s little surprise that the sounds of the underground have found a home here. Alongside its own productions, the venue regularly collaborates with both local and international promoters, hosting events throughout the summer that often stretch from day into night.

One such occasion arrives as part of one of Lisbon’s most beloved annual celebrations: Santos Populares. Taking over the city each June, the festivities bring together food, music, street parties and community gatherings, creating an atmosphere unlike any other. Carmo Rooftop marks the occasion with its annual Saints & Sounds party and, as usual, the lineup is more than worthy of the occasion.

This year’s special guests arrive from another of Europe’s most revered electronic music capitals: Berlin. First up is Anthea, a long-standing and widely respected artist whose influence extends through a growing network of projects and labels that stem from Partisan and beyond. Equally comfortable navigating hypnotic minimalism, tripped-out grooves and high-energy dance floor moments, Anthea has spent years refining a sound that is both adventurous and deeply rooted in the delights of the crowd.

Joining her is Woody, another artist whose reputation has been built through decades of dedication to the craft. A key figure behind Berlin institution Heideglühen, Woody is renowned for his understated approach and impeccable selection. His groove-led sets prioritise flow and feeling over spectacle, making him a perfect fit for the intimate yet expansive atmosphere of Carmo Rooftop.

Representing the local contingent are several familiar faces from the Carmo family. Jorge Caiado continues to establish himself as one of Portugal’s most respected exports, known for his warm, musical approach and leading a vision with his own label Carpet & Snares. Bruno Curtis brings his deep digging sensibilities and eclectic taste, while Stan Yaroslavsky and Carmo’s own Kee_ko round out the lineup making this very much a family affair from the booth to the floor.

Running for twelve hours from 4pm until 4am, Saints & Sounds captures all shades. From golden-hour moments through to the deeper sounds of the night, this is a celebration that perfectly embodies the spirit of Santos Populares. An event not to be missed.
