Few artists understand the architectural possibilities of music quite like Tokyo’s DJ Gonno. Where others see rigid structure, he finds breathing room—space to let hypnotic grooves unfold with patience and purpose. What sets Gonno apart is his understanding of negative space. He knows when to strip things back to just kick and hi-hat, letting the rhythm do the heavy lifting. And when he does introduce melodic elements, they arrive like punctuation marks—economical, deliberate, never overstaying their welcome.
Having his hands and on the dials of many genres is Gonno’s superpower and the Jeff Mills collaborator flexes this prowess on each and every release he pours his soul into. Being a firm favourite at Bangalore’s Sweet Spot, Gonno’s return to the intimate event series has been kindly recorded for your listening pleasure. Telling a story through the medium of music is a seldom found skill and few can hold a candle to Gonno in this respect. Slipping between feel good house and angular hypnotic territory via closed eyes euphoric moments, each track tells its own tale, but when stitched together an adventure unfolds. Not afraid to throw out the odd curveball, Gonno delves into the far reaches of his delectable record bag and comes up trumps with this 2.5 hour journey.
