Premiere: B2 – VIDO – Kazna’s Metamorphose [METRODRIVE001]

metrodrive001

Frankfurt based producer VIDO brings five unique tracks to her new label project Metrodrive.

The now Berlin based artist has become a frequent face across the city, hosting regular showcases under her various VIDO and M-Drive alias’. Following various releases on Bandcamp and an extensive podcast output, the talented face behind the collective starts a new label showcasing the variety of her tastes.

Moods are difficult to define throughout the release, meandering through tinges of acid, electro and minimal influences each coated with a gritty, analogue vibe. ‘Kazna’s Metamorphose’ explores a deeper end of the palate in this premiere. A pulsing bassline is mirrored with stunning, glacial chords adding an ethereal, haunting energy to the track.

Crafty 909 drum work brings a subtle bounce to the track, enabling the immersive melodic tendencies to work their transcendental magic. Sounds are left to ring out over extended periods, teasing eerie and ghostly atmospheres over lean, rugged beats before snapping back into a fierce peak time drum workout.

Rhythms are repetitive and hypnotic, forming an addictive foundation through skippy hats and peculiar percussions. Elements grow with intense energy, whilst remaining within a deeper, thought-provoking palate. It’s the kind of psychedelic head music you might hear the likes of Binh or DJ Masda spinning deep into an after-hours session.

Each cut on the release leans towards a more introspective and dissonant expression common in Berlin’s thriving scene. ‘Bin’ stomps through a spiraling acid journey, working fervent drum programming around a squirmy, moreish bassline.

‘Staringpeople’ picks up the tempo with an elegant excursion into dreamy synthesis. Neat, agile 909 hats dart between a sharp bassline and sustained chords swimming overhead, whilst ‘Floppyliving’ dives right into the deep end.

Ferocious acid lines explode beneath a stern kick drum and relentless percussions in tow, packed with a similar the pulsing, trance-like energy of the premiered ‘Kazna’s Metaphose’.

Closing out the record with a intimate expression, VIDO’s alter ego M-Drive contributes a gorgeous vocal piece to the record’s B2. Pensive synth work introduces a gentle spoken word section, before sweeping into driving techno territories.

The Frankfrut-Berlin artist showcases an earnest expression of both her tastes and artistic vision with this debut vinyl EP. From slick and sultry drum programming, to spirited acid journeys, METRODRIVE 001 is a captivating trip into the mind of VIDO.
