For the next edition of Tomska’s Abstract Cuts a four tracker VA will present tracks that take elements from vintage drum machines and samplers. The result is an EP curated for the dancefloor with a more leftfield approach but with more than enough substance to destroy any club.
Our focus lands on Tomska’s own addition to the VA – ‘Lethal Overdose (Touch Dub 2022)’. Taking cues from 90’s house drums but with a modern ethereal twist, he utilises a raw saw wave type bassline to add serious bite to proceedings while the dreamy pad flows throughout. Vocoded vocals are sprinkled on top to great effect to add a future retro dimension to this cosmic banger.
B2 ‘Jeu Froid’ from Emile seriously bangs. The blown bassdrum demands attention from the outset and could quite easily soundtrack any grimy basement session. As well as the obvious pounding beats the dub infused synths and vocal clips temper the low-end action nicely.
Taking things back to side A and A1 ‘’Powers of Ten (R2D2 Live Edit)’ is a chunky hardware jam that thuds along with a modular synth pattern and a well-rounded bassline. Repeated and chopped drum programing adds a tidy flow too that offers great character. Completing the VA is a more peak time house cut of ‘Gold Saucer’ from Brunzi. Harking back to a time when house ruled the world this cut is an upbeat weapon that will easily feature in sets from top selectors.
CUTS02 is now available to pre-order from deejay.de.
