Italian label BAR Musica run by Bartolomeo, has always had a high barometer of quality when it comes to A&R. For their next edition, they welcome a new face to the family in Gargiulo, and with his selector skills beyond reproach, big things are in the pipeline for both the artist and his new label home.
We head straight to side B, where “Breaking Wave” enjoys the full side of the record. Waning synth pads join the already thudding grooves, while this intro to the track may signify a forlorn heater, the arriving bassline and key stabs soon herald a slight change in direction. This is short-lived as these emotive pads soon arrive back into the mix with some excellent detuning to boot.
Flipping back over to side A, and firstly, we have more stripped-back emotive minimal house on “Rivotrii”. Crispy grooves are certainly the order of the day, as the scything hi-hats cut through the murky synth work with ease. These darker tones soon give way to a serious bassline that will most assuredly result in whoops from the dancefloor when revealed.
Completing side A and the EP is “Hypnoallusione”, and the basslines just get dirtier and dirtier. From the outset, this is a trippy affair and with bass tones as low as these, there is really one way to go and that is straight to the floor. For with the Tuscan artist being a relatively new face on the scene, we think great things await with such an emotionally loaded EP such as this in his locker.
