Deepology has become a label synonymous with the underground house and techno scene in Russia. Since launching back in 2007, the family of artists releasing on this label has grown into big numbers, over seventy. A testament to the support provided towards the musicians of Moscow and beyond. A testament also to the longevity of the label itself. They’re now about to celebrate a period of Four Seasons in the making of the music with DS002V.
As is often the case with labels of such stature, sublabels have been created on the way. Their vinyl only platform Deepology Special, is exactly as described. With only one release since it began five years ago, it is clear what they put out is well thought. It seems only fitting such an idea of a release for each season of the year would make the cut for DS002V.
The first of the seasons is a VA featuring friends and residents of the label, headed up by Mag Day Chuck with ‘Alfa’. The lead track oozes warmth throughout. Deep spacey synths set the scene over a subtle grooving bass. The uplifting house beat is catchy but by no means cliche. It’s cool and feel good, made all the more enjoyable by a host of samples trickling euphoria delicately in the background.
Percussive swing tops this off as a dance floor bomb that will no doubt have people moving. The one and only breakdown is excellently timed to build the tension and the way the sample plays into the drop really is quite something on the ears. ‘Alfa’ alone makes this one worthy of a special release.
Although already sold out at deejay.de, you can still grab one of the 300 limited edition copies at Juno. Currently sitting at number 10 in this week’s deep house chart.
