Leeds-based artist and Musty Head Records co-boss Jamie Leather is on a bit of a roll at the moment. After many hours spent honing his craft the good starting to drop left and right. Leather’s growing discography includes entries in Voigtmann’s recent Subsequent VA, Curtea Veche’s 5 Years double VA, and now he has his own solo 12” dropping on Meraki Music.
Taking pride of place in this EP is the title track ‘Monday Morning’ and there is no other place this absolute bomb could be placed than A1. The hollow percussion and glitch FX lead into the twilight-inducing pads nicely before the kick drops in. The eerily calm synths and an undulating bassline that play out across this track are effortlessly measured. The finely weighted breathy pad and bleepy synths edge more and more sublime emotion with each passing beat. It really is little wonder that this has been picked up by a range of top artists such as Christopher Ledger, Arapu, Voigtmann, Prichindel, Jane Fitz and Archie Hamilton.
Following along a similar vibe but with a more electro peak time feel ‘In A Dream’ ramps up the energy somewhat. Flipping over to side B and Jake Floury has turned in a great remix of the title track ‘Monday Morning’. Taking the more ethereal moments from the original and soldering them to his trademark swinging beats.
Rounding out the release is the cosmic banger ‘Phone Home’. The cerebral synths here really elevate this track and with it the BPM begins to rise. This EP is rock solid and as well as the other tracks released and otherwise Jamie Leather is clearly a name to watch out for.
