Erwin hits back with smooth swathes of deepness, oozing soothing, soupy sounds as the elements interact and balance effortlessly in “Caldo Verde”, never too late or early a moment to spin this one!
Berlin’s Erwin returns to Arepas with 4 more original and fresh aural snackettes for us in the form of his “Iberian Cuts” EP, which marks the third cut for Berlin & Copenhagen-based record label, Arepas Records, who offer up a fine sonic delicatessen supplying only the freshest of sounds.
“Iberian Cuts” begins by whetting the appetite with a deep, choice cut, “Caldo Verde” as a strong starter for the A-side. House vibes, laden with harmonic sophistication and tightly-strung rhythmic elements, resonator workouts that drip with groove, all together infectious stuff!
Continuing a strong selection of starters, “Bacalhau” rounds off the A-side with a curation of hypnotic and floaty sounds, as rhythmic as they are buoyant, underpinned by playful melodies and samples that swell and scamper throughout.
On the flip side Erwin serves some heat with “Medronho”, a dynamic piece with healthy doses of fire and soul poured in. Strong in spirit, this track takes inspiration from its title which derived from “Aguardiente de Medronho” – the fiery brandy made from the fruit of the Medronho tree in rural Portugal.
Slinging high calorie goodness, “Pastel de nata” boasts luscious harmonic content, sweet swirling pads and an addictive lead line, energetic and lovable music right there.
“Bica” Takes a step back from the dance floor and indulges in an introspective moment as melancholic strings lead over analogue drums and finer details that crackle subtly in the back as reso plucks ascend and meander along joyfully. Lovely way to finish off a delectable sonic offering on a plate of wax!
