Premiere: A1 – Christophe Salin – Do Right [SALIN011]

It's Probably Me EP record art

Salin Records returns for its eleventh release, celebrated with a four track EP from label owner Christophe Salin nearly two years since his last.

The label was born from the shared passions of Christophe and his wife Daria Salin. Rarely is a platform born from such a strong bond and in this case a deep love of house music meets a creative flow of visual art. The result is a series of records that look as tasteful as they sound. And whilst It’s Probably Me EP might represent a shift in sound from the artist himself, the label’s wholesome direction remains true.

The record opens with ‘Do Right’. Pertinent swing guides the rhythm from the off. Tapping hi-hat keeps the pace, remaining a constant for the most part and becoming a tool of definition in the brief moments it is removed. A playful bassline gives little away to begin with. In fact, it’s the melodies that set the mood, breezing through in different shapes and sizes.

Deep chords trickle melancholic moments as a high-pitched synth politely tickles the senses. A striking combination of vocal samples work together to add depth to the feeling, the voices becoming tonal instruments in themselves. The elements envelope a pleasant warmness that heats up as the progressions get longer, rounded off with energy injected from the chord stabs that follow.

Salin serves up another two of his own originals alongside a hypnotic breaks remix from Iron Curtis. The record is available to buy from deejay.de or Juno, with pre-order of the digital album available over on Bandcamp. Expect release at the end of the week.
