Having rightly featured on our 2023 top 100 list with the sultry “Freeway”, Lepaya returns to these pages to showcase his skills. He is now featured as part of the Suspense Music 2024 wrap-up VA alongside a cast of top producers. Number thirteen may be unlucky for some but certainly not for us or Suspense Music.
Drilling down to his signature lush, riddim-packed grooves, Lepaya certainly brings the funk with “Why You”. The subtly nuanced weapon draws an atmospheric picture of a dancefloor at sunrise that easily transfers to magical moments that will resonate with the finest of selectors. Rewinding to the top of the release and Alineat also got the memo on “Kim Jim” where the topic was crafting memorable timeless bombs.
Dinu also comes correct on “Summer Echo” where he turns in one of his top moments of the year. Undulating rhythms pair nicely with the ethereal vocals musings and a dramatic clutch of strings that are a very welcome surprise. Emiliyan and Shenk combine on “Dislike” with GOMPEL offering the remix.
Just2 is also a shoe-in for Suspense Music highlights with the brooding, acid workout of “Check Urself”. It is clear that the label has had a fine year of releases as this is another example of their onpoint A&R skills. Tupikor breathes an angelic life into La Matrice’s “The World Through Your Eyes” while Dikka takes on mtps’s “Nobody”.
With the final moments come via Thudoor and “Mental Break”, while Zafra rounds out Suspense Music’s year snapshot with the energy-packed “All You Need” proving the wealth of diverse and impressive artists on their roster.
