US collective, NZT Records, has built a solid fanbase as a result of their out-of-the-box desert gatherings, and they now prepare to unleash their extended family VA.
We dive into the myriad of sounds with Tompson’s “Captain’s Chair”, and the room rocking snare hits are just one of the elements that jump out of the speaker. This bombastic vibe is further amplified by the huge bassline and the shimmering P-Funk-esque synths and guitar licks. This high-impact party bomb direction is a welcome mainstay through the VA and release opener “Make Some Noise” from Mr. Radio Man does just that, and what an opening.
Hunter Foshee is next with “Cactus Cooler”, and the acid bassline binds effortlessly to the lush vocals and skipping grooves. Another highlight of the release comes courtesy of Keiran Ishumaru and his summer time smash “Triple Whammy” and the phased synths stabs certainly conjure all sorts of memories from past good times. Regular face of NZT Records and their events Ethan Sparks impresses with the breaky “Sexxxy”.
Moving on to the midway point in the release is JJ Selects and “B2L” and his noisy re-rub of a Soul II Soul classic. This is joined on the release by the thumping grooves of Juilian Ortega’s “Just Smile” and the feel-good factor is dialled up by way of the deep bouncing bassline and uplifting acid synth and piano licks. This high-energy standing is further cemented by the dreamy trumpet-laden thumper “Temptations” from Nilets and Patrick Loada’s “Nighttime Boranda”.
Heading towards the business end of the release and the script is flipped once again with the breakneck electro slammer “Ignition Sequence” from Jack Brew and the booty bass of Mr. Macke’s “She Like To Party”. Austin Derrico tapers the tempo with his retro house groover “Old Soundz”, while Zumo impresses with the bass-heavy rhymes of “Jah Bless”. Rounding out a finely curated trip through the NZT stable is garage-focused vibes of “Pleasure Treasure” from Yalan.
You can buy the VA via the NZT Records Bandcamp page.
The NZT Records crew will also be throwing their long-awaited desert rave Spring Fling from May 1-, and it will include sets from a huge cast of artists that include Aerofunk, John Manhard, as well as many of the artists that are included on this very VA.
