Scottish artist Eosap creates warm and bittersweet moments that delve into the introspective side of the party, with funky undertones, abstract eccentricities and loopy hypnosis galore in his “Irreverent Tract” EP.
Eosap’s debut release marks the fourth output on Wicked Discourse digital, following a string of solid outings from Nebulaee, Altarf and Massud Matin with quality remix work from Cleymoore, Loopdeville and Tom Ellis.
‘Harling’ hears sunny tones home in on semitones as they rise and fall over snappy drums that swing and ooze with groove. Classic house flavours stripped back and reimagined in a world that dips and skips. Minimalistic motifs shuffle side to side as elements whisper and wind with uncertainty, amalgamated by a body of soft pads that soothe and sear as they bring a sense of melancholy to the plate.
Track 1 on the EP, ‘Twilit’, evolves slowly as harmonies wash through, adding colour in waves that build and swell, while undercurrents of orchestral motifs permeate with sweet rhythms and harmonies. Skeletal tech house, stripped to the bone with warm tones and a hooky lead line to boot.
“Jurassic Funk” plays on the leftfield, barmier side of minimal and house where Eosap plays with raw sounds, oddball basslines and sticky delays. Wiggy, energetic and slightly on the funky side, the tune hears a host of prehistoric cries resurrected and dissected atop drums that fizz as they loop and loop.
Sound designer and electronic music luminary Giash darkens and refocuses elements from the original in his ‘IDNT Remix’ as he delivers a robust and bewitching retelling that really bangs.
Rounding out the EP, ‘Tempus Fidget’ takes us somewhere sweet, with bells ringing in light and intrigue as they glint like fireflies in the night as the provide a sweet melodic section.
Wicked Discourse saw its initial creation in the form of a club night co-run by Eosap and Alex Taylor. Eosap now runs the label alongside fellow Scot and Motus bossman, Sonho. Together, the pair curate underground and stripped-back tracks that keep it cool whilst bringing the bump across the spectrum of minimal, house and dub techno goodness.
