Lunfardo lift the lid on Uruguay’s raw, powerful and wholly analogue sound with a VA featuring some of the countries rising stars. Described as raw and street the honour of this first release lands with Arturo, Maximo, DJ E, Two Phase You and W.Y.S and this impressive shows that there is plenty to say.
This VA from Lunfardo for their first outing is bursting with quality and the raw, upfront sound of Uruguay is well presented here. Kicking off our coverage of LFDO001 is DJ E’s ‘Into The Club’ and having impressed on Baguette Magique Records first release we knew more heat was on the way. Huge bassline and a sick acid arrangement easily transports the ears and mind to a warehouse in downtown Montevideo. Room filling claps and scything hi hats cut right through the mix to deliver those heart pounding grooves.
Taking things back to the top of the release and there is a duo of tracks from Arturo. The first and VA opener ‘Cebolla Frita’ features more acid, but with a more proggy feel yet with a dancefloor pumping beat arrangement. The second, ‘Espunga’ picks up the pace a little more, and more huge basslines are in store as well as well as a lush paddy scenario that balances the vibes nicely.
Maximo’s ‘Required’ is next and combines breakbeat interludes with 4/4 grooves as well as radio spits and blooming synth pads. Previous Trommel premiere artist Two Phase You and just like his track for The Bricks it bangs big time. ‘Hnation’ is playful yet a little sinister and the darker acidic vibes work especially well here. Rounding out the release is W.Y.S and ‘Hometown Run’ and lush breakbeats close proceedings in fine style.
