Dance music’s origins meet the future in we.amps’ “Utopia Tecnica” as the duo paint a deep utopian soundscape that oozes analogue warmth, dripping acid lines, classic drums and infectious basslines.
we.amps hit deep with a three-tracker on Italian outfit Trend Records, spanning a host of retrospective flavours as he touches on acid, classic rave, house and more in his “Big Muffin EP”.
Title track “Big Muffin” heads off the EP with sounds primed for the dancefloor, led by a base of orchestral pads that glimmer and swell as they make way for tasty low end and a catchy main hook, big body-moving energy coming through on this number. Sandwiched in between lies “Yoshito Loop” which serves up a stripped-back structure with transcendent pads making way for some squelchy 303-esque action that really packs a punch, as pads call and answer, blurring the lines between melody and bassline alluding to the overall groove of the track. Every gap is filled throughout the tune as it becomes increasingly infectious throughout as each new part reinforces another, top work! With previous releases on the likes of Solenoid Records, Mole music and more, this is far from their first rodeo.
Studio practice aside, the Italian duo has made themselves a known force as DJs, their unfaltering commitment to that old-school sound has proven fruitful as the pair find themselves donning residencies at This Is Not and the like, which has seen them playing the likes of Panorama Bar and other such reputable dance music institutions.
Fresh takes through a retrospective glance, a very palatable output from we.amps – we look forward to hearing more from the pair and their weird amps!
