Leftback records boss Dudley Strangeways takes to Cultrun Cult Records for a 5-track face-melter featuring remixes from Herman Saiz and Claudio Solis. This release marks the Auckland-based label’s 3rd release, following two solid releases from Japanese artist Kaitaro, and serial collaborators Fardin Ameri and Massud Matin.
‘Park and Gardens’ EP is Dudley flexing his signature low-slung, knock-kneed production style bringing that dark dancefloor energy that flirts with mysterious arpeggios, elements of breaks, hypnotic grooves and well-thought-out vocal chops. With an extensive discography and releases on his own Leftback, Pleasure Zone, Ovum and Curtea Veche to name a select few, it comes as no surprise that the Nottingham-based artist is churning out some top-drawer tunes.
Trommel premieres track 2 from the EP, ‘Pack Rat’, a near 8-minute no-nonsense, mesmeric stretch with interjections from an arsenal of stabs, pads and granular bubbles. As certain as it is unrelenting, the story is told as cool sound design breathes its way over the track’s militant structure and repetition. A definite weapon for the later hours.
Cultrun are really setting the tone for minimal in New Zealand, we’re excited to hear what they have coming up next given the path they have paved so far.
