Calme Music present their latest digital offering, coming from OOTB & j03l.
J03l has made a milestone this year, kicking things off in March with the launch of his label License to Kill. The first release saw him serve up an EP of his own to get things moving. The ‘bond orientated beats’ (which we premiered here) feature Doubtingthomas on the remix, making for a welcome addition to the circuit. This also led on to the LTK podcast, which has been running since May.
The UK artist has teamed up with OOTB, another who’s music recently made it onto wax. Together they are collaborating with an EP for Argentinian outfit Calme Music. The Buenos Aires based platform meet musical minds from Europe, featuring two original tracks from the artists at play.
On the premiere we have ‘Marginale’. Mechanical percussion cracks sharply, a steady rhythm made of light tapping hi’s and spontaneous claps. The mood is relaxed, set by soft melodies dancing politely in warming keys.
A constant synth holds a pleasant tone throughout, grounding the beat with a hypnotic lull that feels pleasant and calm. It’s a track that would fit nicely in a gentle warm up.
‘Coloroma’ is also most definitely worth a mention. Centred around a low slung groove, big and juicy in the bassline, it’s another gradual builder brimming with echoes of the euphoric.
Well placed symbols meet breaks, in a growing swirl of melodies – bubbling energy which becomes settled only at the breakdown. Those few seconds might be the tastiest, an alluring sound that captivates in the snap.
Buy the EP from OOTB & J03l EP via Beatport, already out for release.
