The next edition of long running imprint Cavilar comes from France-based Peruvian artist marcelo. Now arriving with his “Honest Moves: Ubícate” EP, the concept of raw club energy with traces of progressive trance serve up a high octane cocktail.
We begin our journey with marcelo at the top of his EP for Cavilar and “Rising” is a real message of intent from the young producer. Murky synth stabs are coupled with roomy percussion and a bounding bassline that removes any thought of remaining stationary for too long. The infectious energy spreads through every facet of this track and bleeds uncontrollably into the remaining EP tracks.
“Bazuka” is next and picking up where the first track left off, a collection of voices share their musings on the expanse of space while the striped back groove sets the tone. The rising tension from the synth stabs and accompanying atmospheres that join it culminate in a lush, bleepy motif. Moving onto “Unbreakable Wood” and a more vintage trance sound emerges but with a modern edge to it that the genre would have most definitely benefitted the first time around.
“Parranderos OG” arrives as the penultimate track in the collection and effortlessly maintains the high energy footprint that had been established early in the EP. Vocal snips echo across the verby synth stabs as if stones cast across a cosmic pond. While the chosen path is a more trance leaning iteration, these tracks would also work well within the HI NRG house or techno sphere. This is rounded off nicely with “Hardcore Dance” which exhibits a more breakbeat shape to its groove.
