Marking release number 11 for the crew over at Hoft, it’s safe to say these trees like to dance and are very much secure in their sound as previous pieces range from dubby late night club stories to sun kissed housey bits and downright chillers from some of South America’s finest underground artists.
Thoughtful and soulful sounds from Uruguayan artist Juan Brun as he shares four authentic tales in his “Synchronize EP” for fellow Punta Del Este natives, HOFT – House of Trees.
Awash with silky harmonies and playful sampling, Juan Brun’s “Benteveo” delivers smooth grooves and easy vibes in a timeless way. Following on from smooth moves down easy street in “Benteveo”, track 2 steps things up a notch with “Bet You Would”. Hazy harmonies and uplifting tones culminate over a tight, techy body of percussion and catchy bass plucks that pave the way for some tantalising vocals that whisper, incite and invite throughout.
Organic, melodic tones lead the way in “Gateway Drift” as notes come directly from the trees themselves as the marimba flexes its ability to deliver melodies pure and fresh. This is amalgamated between tasty synth lines and the marimba as the tune discovers its identity at the point right where we exist, between nature and technology. Spacious and inventive, this track hears a host of different themes and directions, but never straying off the path too far. Deeper meandering stuff for the late hours/sunrise set but also solid warm up grooves in a cool location for sure.
Track 4. “Rest in Love” sees things out in closing fashion as ethereal pads meet otherworldly vocals and emotive melodies that work in tandem with a simplistic yet hearty bass. A host of plucks and bells inject melodies that appear to loop infinitely, with subtle changes providing a sense of resolve, alluding to the sense of the impending curtain call as the EP comes to an ending.
Real tasty tunes all round from the young Uruguayan artist, definitely hitting parameters on the originality front as each original feels authentic and unbridled, a refreshing reality in an era of sampling, loop packs and classic track breakdown videos… keep ‘em coming!
