Launched back in 2016, Isla Records is the Ibiza based home to underground house and techno by 2Vilas & Simone Isla. Already 5 release deep into their journey they have already welcomed Unit, Zorum, Costin Rp and now they welcome DK to the fold for their debut on the label with the 3 track ‘Be Good To You’ EP.
As you might expect from Isla Records and 2Vilas this EP is a deep slab of atmospheric groovey minimal house and it is the remix from Xandru of lead track ‘Good To You’ on B1 that has us reloading every time. Where the original on A1 remains deep and brooding the remix from Romanian Xandru uses shortened vocal samples from the original and latches those to a much more upbeat bubbling bassline and straight-up drum pattern. Where the original lifts large swathes First Choice’s remake of Al Green’s ‘Love & Happiness’ Xandru opts to chop parts from it and work those into the intricate beats that he is so well known for. The snap of the closed hi-hats and the impact of the bassline really changes up the vibe of the track altogether and takes the track in a whole new direction.
Completing this fine release from the White isle is the equally deep but slightly more groovey ‘City Lights’. Interweaving several vocal phrases together to form a trippy concoction of voices that will perfectly serve as a mid-morning mind-bender in the right hands. There is not too much variation in terms of the drum programming here but instead letting the complex intricacies of the vocal sampling doing most of the talking. Another rock-solid release from the Isla Records camp.
