Parsec shapes his third EP for Habits Records, featuring UK-based producer MADVILLA on remix duties.
The funk-driven bombs have seen early support from the likes of Cosmjn, Mihai Popoviciu, and Costin Rp, moulding the zesty UK flavours with sultry Romanian vibes.
Crossovers between the two scenes lend each other beautifully for the culture-swapping sets of today. Sound design throughout the release is delicate and precise, although touches on the repetitive and cosmic mood associated with many European selectors.
The collective have been nailing this cosmic meets playful aesthetic, with a prolific output across their Bandcamp channel, as well as the recent off-shoot ‘XXX Culture’ featured in our premiere with Herck.
Upcoming artist MADVILLA pumps energy into ‘Achernar’ in the featured remix. The London-based, California-born producer has been finding his feet within the shifty, peak-time house, landing works on Seb Zito’s Seven Dials, as well as his own Hot Wings imprint, heard in our premiere back in January.
The influence of the UK capital seeps into the delightfully swung groove of ‘Achernar’. Drum sounds remain within a familiar, retro-inspired palate, swinging crisp 909 hats and claps around a lively bassline. Notes are deftly supplemented with clever tom work, loading the rhythm with bounce.
The sun-kissed, friendly mood of the track makes for a versatile and heavily playable cut, able to fall as comfortably into the bags of London’s FUSE crew, as Bucharest’s minimal roster.
Parsec explores a more dubbed-out tip in his original cuts, maintaining the garage-leaning bounce running throughout the release, whilst sprinkling more pensive shades throughout. Dreamy pads wrap around peculiar vocal samples and bleepy melodies, gasping for the re-opening of clubs.
