Selekt Sounds have carved out an identity in New York rooted in the finer shades of minimalism, balancing stripped-back groove with an explorative spirit that drifts through introspection and subtle movement. Since launching the label in 2022, the imprint has welcomed a broad roster of artists, each given the freedom to dive deep into sounds where less often says more and every element takes on greater focus. The result is a catalogue driven by personal journeys rather than fixed boundaries.
The label shifted into vinyl territory last year with a three-track EP from Dragomir, crafted in the beating heart of Bucharest—a city long synonymous with this refined, reduced sound. Now the second wax installment arrives courtesy of Loopdeville.
Well acquainted with this deeper aesthetic, Loopdeville brings over a decade of production experience shaped between Bulgaria and Spain. On the premiere we have Ohm Hourani’s Solektik Mix of ‘Varginha 96’, a playful, otherworldly interpretation inspired by the infamous UFO sighting in Brazil. Hints of jazz ripple through the original as warped news announcements drift between swinging rhythms and spacious grooves. Hourani’s rework strips things back further, sharpening the focus on atmosphere and narrative. Fluttering synth work glides above a subtle rhythmic pulse, unfolding patiently through intricate detail while maintaining a captivating sense of movement.
Over on the B side, Loopdeville continues with ‘Thunders in Paradise’, driving yet delicate, with painted strings that hypnotise through repetition. Deep in nature whilst still bursting with groove, it’s another carefully balanced concoction where soft textures are heightened by the weight of the bassline beneath. ‘Never Enough’ closes the record with a gentler touch, choppy vocals intertwining with crisp percussion as warm chords emerge through hazy, shrouded textures.
