London label Serenity records hit out with another tasty 4-tracker as they celebrate their 8th release landing on wax, this next bit features 2 originals from household name Harrison BDP in collaboration with Turkish artist and Tenfold founder, O’ner.
Together the duo deliver “Status Freeman” on the A-side which hears some frenetic synths build tension as they ride atop a serious rolling bass that brings with it a host of tasty plucks and shots.
Harry’s expert flip completes the A-side as the techy remix fills the remainder. Taking cues from the original, Harry Wills keeps the vibe deep and dirty as he drives it home hard in his slick remix of ‘Status Freeman’, slinging gun finger moments, low slung basslines and rhythms.
On the flipside, Harrison BDP and O’ner draw on themes from breakbeat and more as they deliver an infectious, spaced-out number in “Ika’s Place”. Laid-back, stargazing goodness! Italian tastemaker, Black Loops AKA Pafetti preserves hypnotic elements from the original whilst bringing the vibe back to the dance floor as he homes in on some solid grooves, a tasteful and euphoric selection of sounds that would hit just right in a host of different contexts. Lovely work and a well-rounded EP across the board.
Going beyond just the music, Serenity places a strong onus on raising awareness and funds, the charity label is committed to making a difference by supporting mental health support services, charities – addressing one of the industry’s biggest issues. This time round Serenity are donating proceeds from this release to CALM – Campaign Against Living Miserably, a UK-based suicide prevention charity. CALM operate a free, confidential and anonymous helpline as well as a web chat service, offering help, advice and information to anyone who is struggling or in crisis. Having seen the releases from Jay Tripwire, Anna Wall, Innershades, Rob Amboule and the like, as well as label owner Connor Male, the not-for-profit, London-based label has seen a string of superb releases over the years, all raising money and awareness for a great cause.
