Premiere: A2 – Habitatge13 – Onyx [MINST001]

Mental Instruments announce the launch of their new label series, coming live and direct from Barcelona. Introducing the platform is Argentinian artist Habitatge13, now based in the Spanish city and ready to share his sound with a four-track EP, Initium. The record brings together a blend of raw electro and futuristic techno, fused with fuzzy textures.

On the premiere, we’re featuring ‘Onyx’, a high-powered chugger that carries a pulsating energy alongside a haunting melodic story. The bassline is electric, driven by fuzzy pads that race wildly along the bars. Dips and drips plunge you into a murky abyss, while textured rhythms spur on the adventure.

Amid the narrative, otherworldly communications come layered from different angles. Atmospheric strings and shimmering chords twist and turn, highs and lows intertwining into a playful excursion. It’s rough and ready, with a touch of cheek.

‘Triangles’ nods to the punk era, led by a guitar-string melody that blurs the lines between band and beats. Those deeper shades remain, anchored by an electro bassline that doesn’t let up for a second — even as the Spanish señor delivers a chilling spoken narrative over the top, the narrator of a twisted tale.

‘Balance’ brings a delicate swing to its fuel of groove. Tapping percussion breathes softly over the rhythm, as tantalising synths warp between filters. It’s a deep house mover that climbs steadily to euphoric heights. ‘Nightshift’ rounds out the EP as the heavy hitter of the bunch. A tougher groove, weighty and hypnotic.

Distribution is handled by Subwax, and you can buy the record here.
