Brazilian imprint Toy Records launch their vinyl series with a four track EP from debutant Vasc. Featuring four original works spanning lush minimalism and dancefloor heat, great things await this new label.
Firstly taking aim at “フュージョン”, the track title translates as “fusion” in Japanese, co-founder Luiz Vasconcelos under his Vasc moniker melds atmospheric pads with crisp percussive rhythms throughout the A1 track. Setting the scene perfectly for the remainder of the EP, Vasc focuses on the groove while building an immersive trip via the mystical vocals.
Completing side A is the similarly atmospheric “Untitled I”, packing more of a punch, there is a clear progression into the realm of deep tech house via the delayed synth notes that bleed through. With the beats not fading away for too long, a vision of a stunning golden sunrise is easily conjured up.
Flipping over to side B and “Minimal Landscape” crisps up the beats even further along with the BPM’s. Rebounding bass tones and filtered vox snips add to the floaty aesthetic but not to the detriment of its dancefloor chops. Rounding out a very impressive first release for Toy Records, Vasc completes his equally impressive debut release with “Stop the Action”. Taking cues from the previous tracks on the EP, the seductively deep probing beats and bassline take hold and produce a truly captivating journey.
