Premiere: A1 – Rinaldo Makaj – Computional Universe [432-001]

Rinaldo Makaj starts his own vinyl label 432HERTZ with a fierce various artist EP titled ‘Space Collective’.

The Albanian-born, Berlin-based artist has been releasing music for over ten years, with an EP in 2013 for the well respected RORA label and John Dimas’ Elephant Moon imprint. After over a decade of refining his craft, soaking up inspiration in the German capital and exploring a deeper sound palate, the time has arrived for his own label project.

With over 20 years of experience inside electronic music, Rinaldo has established himself as a highly respected figure which comes through in his tracks. We focus on his A1 contribution ‘Computional Universe’ in this premiere, a sleek club track dancing between the realms of house and techno with a mysterious and driving energy that is suited to a variety of moments on the dance floor.

Rhythms lean into a classic drum machine sound with zippy hats and a subtle acid bass flooding the track with groove. You can imagine Rhadoo spinning this one deep into one of his mind-music marathons. Sounds are crisp and clean, forming a stripped-back but punchy vibe that would definitely come to life on a sound system.

This is where you can hear the level of experience behind Rinaldo’s craft, sound design is pristine with a satisfying amount of space between sounds, allowing melodies to sing in all the right places. Moods meander through a level of pensiveness and intrigue, without straying too deep into darkness or cloudy atmospheres.

Fellow Berlin-based producer Rickie brings a menacing breakbeat-inspired jam to the A2. Fresh from a release with Onirik’s OFF The Grid label, it’s the sign of an artist in fine form. Sounds are similarly considered and unhurried, exploring a sinister vibe whilst remaining slick, agile and intriguing.

Swiss producer Electric City brings some spicy electro to the B side, walking through whimsical atmospheres and classic synth work dancing with vocals remnant of electro pioneers Drexciya.

“Pumio Space” concludes the EP with a refreshing slice of house music. Subtle chords wash over an airy beat, fizzing hi-hats into the mix with an interesting broken rhythm that would be perfect for a sunrise moment.

Each track hosts a sense of hope and deepness in their own way, perhaps linking to the ethos of the label being named 432Hz. The healing frequency of 432Hz is strongly associated with many sound healing practices, similarly how the therapeutic nature of club music comes through in this diverse EP.
