Berlin-based producer Erwin steps into a new chapter with the launch of his label, Arepas Records, debuting with the finely tuned ‘Arepas’ EP. Across five original tracks, the record glides between deep shades of minimal and ambient house, finding that sweet spot between floor-focused energy and moments of late-night introspection. The release arrives September 26th on both vinyl and digital, showcasing the depths of Erwin’s studio habits from minimalist club music, right through to a tear-jerking piano solo.
The A1 title track, ‘Arepas’, opens the EP with a warm, rolling energy. Smooth melodic loops float over crisp, unfussy percussion, creating a gentle momentum that feels effortless. It’s almost as if the full arrangement could have been picked out of a much longer jam, with subtle changes flowing throughout the near seven minute piece.
A distant, vocoder-treated vocal shimmers at the back of the mix, more a texture than a statement, its human tone blending seamlessly with the airy synth work. Midway through, the track opens into a lush breakdown with weightless chords swelling into a bright, almost symphonic moment before easing back into its steady, sun-kissed rhythm. It’s deep house with a light touch, perfect for that golden hour where day tips into night.
The rest of the EP keeps the balance between drive and detail. ‘Well Deserved’ locks into a warm, spacious groove, led by rolling percussion and a soft female vocal sample that floats in and out of focus.
‘Infinite Fries‘ blends playful piano motifs with hypnotic vocal loops and punchy percussion, while ‘Blueberry Cream’ slows the pace into a lush, sensual arrangement of breathy vocals and emotive piano. Closing track ‘Aguardiente’ dives deep into the ambient realm with a beautiful piano solo providing a peek into Erwin’s personal world of sound to wrap up this versatile debut.
