Premiere: 2 – Rozin & Kahru – 425 [RKD001]

Rozin & Kahru kick off their new label Rokah with a five track Bandcamp EP, ‘Moire’.

The duo are split between the thriving scenes of Berlin and Amsterdam, bringing their touch of stripped back, trippy house music that comes to life in their shared project. Tracks are long and loopy, taking inspiration from a minimalist and dubbyaesthetic, whilst remaining full of punch and dance floor energy.

We zoom into the track “425” in this premiere, a slinky garage-leaning number packed with deftly snare drums and a lucid, laid-back vibe that is perfect for the warm-up or after-hour dance floor. Intricate vocal work creates a psychedlic vibe with layers on layers of sound washing over the mix, without ever feeling saturated. It’s a delicate and considered approach which holds a strong hypnosis potential in the club.

Synth sounds are subtle and warm, working luscious chords over a deep, subby bassline and slinky hi-hats that feel they could loop forever. You can hear a clear influence from the morning hours in the club, when the energy is submissive and fragile, sounds wash over you with a satisfying charm that is particularly present in this strain of house music.

Five tracks meander through a variety of moods across the EP, each united by an for short, snappy percussion and a dreamy bed of atmospheres. There’s layers of sultry vocals, soft keys and a squlechy underbelly that packs every tune with a wicked punch. Take the sub bass from ‘Zaffer’, subtle and tucked low in the mix yet fills the track with warmth.

In the latter tracks, ‘Foundation’ and ‘Moire’ explore a blissful, sun-kissed vibe which brings a refreshing depth to the EP. Clever percussive work brings a lush, moreish charm to the tracks, working with a simple 4/4 beat that ticks over like clockwork.

You can imagine this kind of music soundtracking a sunrise in Berlin’s beloved Hoppetosse or brining the heat in Amsterdam’s BRET. Rozin and Kahru are no strangers to the DJ booth, regularly playing across both Berlin and Amsterdam’s circuits which comes through in the neat production.

If you like clean, crisp minimal laced with a wonky, abstract vibe; this EP is for you. Buy the full release direct from the label’s Bandcamp.
