Hailing from the outskirts of the Atlantic Ocean, somewhere on the picturesque and mysterious Canary Islands, the multidisciplinary artist FUNKE with Berlin roots and based in Gran Canaria took a step forward last autumn and launched his own label Maktub Recordings. “Maktub is an Arabic word with a profound meaning, ‘it was written’ or ‘whatever is meant to be, will be’. It conveys that destiny fixes and establishes certain connections in our lives, our souls, and on the divine scale.”
For his second release, the label’s founder has carefully crafted four timeless tracks, each with its own story to tell. Our premiere track today is “The Meaning of Life”, an electrifying piece with pulsating rhythms and eerie vocal samples that take you on an interdimensional journey within the first few seconds of playing. A dark, industrial-style track that can’t go unnoticed.
As the name suggests, the second track from the album “EBM Dreams” takes us on an EBM journey infused with progressive influences that will make your mind wander and your body dance. “Technocracy” starts off promisingly with a breaky melodic line that slowly transcends into this ghostly trip, rightly accompanied by robot-like vocals that elevate the whole setting.
Last but not least, “Matrix” goes a more progressive path than its album counterparts, while still maintaining the overall vibe of the album, which can be characterized by the merging of two worlds – the human world and the universe of technology.
