The Egyptian Greyhound is back in fine form with another fiery track, kickstarting the journey of Roundhouse Records.
Inspired by a euphoric, trance-tinged vision, the Barcelona-based artist follows a string of releases for the likes of Opia Records and Unusual Traxx. His sound is frothing with energy, no doubt shaped by the throbbing pulse of Barcelona’s scene. There’s a sense of menace and mischief woven into his productions, but always counterbalanced with hope and optimism in the mood.
In his next outing, the premiered track ‘Ancient Dreams‘ is packed with fiery acid and rolling drums that are primed for the peak-time floor. It’s easy to imagine selectors from Raresh to Voigtmann slotting this into their sets. A genre-blending weapon that dips into tech-house, trance and flashes of old-school rave, all wrapped in a driving, uplifting groove. Over its seven-minute course, stabbing chords slowly emerge, stretching the journey further and painting a lush, hypnotic picture.
What makes ‘Ancient Dreams’ stand out is its grasp of tension and release. The track’s muscular, almost menacing bassline locks dancers into the beat, while feminine vocal fragments and squishy synth textures soften the edges. This interplay between grit and melody creates a push-pull dynamic that keeps the energy simmering without tipping too far in either direction. It’s music engineered for late-night moments of collective release, balancing intensity with a surprising sense of warmth.
The track forms part of a four-track Bandcamp V/A that introduces Roundhouse Records to the world. Curated by Luke Kelly, the project brings together an eclectic mix of artists to express their vision of club music. Alongside Egyptian Greyhound, contributions come from Indecisive, Pilar Molinero and Ben Gough, each adding their own spin on varied tech-house, electro and trance-infused sounds.
As an opening statement for the label, the compilation sets out a clear mission: functional, club-focused records with enough character to cut through in today’s crowded landscape.
The Egyptian Greyhound continues to refine his style while pushing it into fresh territory, and in doing so, helps mark the start of what looks to be a promising journey for Roundhouse Records.
