Finnish artist, Sansibar, is an individual whose work resists easy categorisation. Rooted in an intuitive approach to sound, his productions carry a rawness and depth that speaks to years of immersion in groove-oriented music — with releases on Kalahari Oyster Cult, Darknet, Émotsiya, Savy Records, Natural Sciences and his own imprint Sin Sistema, mapping the range of his output over time.
As a live performer, he brings a physical, unpolished energy to the stage — drum machine pulses locked in tight. At the same time, layers of effected synthesisers move freely around them, creating something that feels simultaneously controlled and alive. Behind the decks, the approach is fluid and open, but an unwavering commitment to groove remains the constant thread running through everything he does.
Having been a staple of the underground for longer than we can remember, it is an honour to welcome Sansibar to our mix series. Known for his lush soundscapes and dastardly grooves, this recording hits like a train from the outset. From wonky techno, gnarly breaks, distorted kicks, and a light dusting of upfront house, Sansibar proves why he is so highly revered as both a DJ and artist.
