In electronic music there are only a select few artists that rise through the ranks and have that star staying power, the ability to transcend genres, and call upon their many guises at will. Timo Maas is one of those artists. From his early years in the trance and progressive scene, to the more techy side of house and techno, he has always delivered a uniquely acidic and decidedly wobbly take on club music. By now, there are not many corners of the world that he has not visited or left untouched by his productions, this is the Maas magic.
As well as his own original productions, Timo has in collaboration with long time studio partner Martin Buttrich helped dance music step from the world of underground clubs and raves into the world of rock and indie music. His seminal remixes for the likes of Depeche Mode, Fatboy Slim, Garbage, Jamiroquai, Madonna, Moby, Moloko, Muse, Placebo, Roger Sanchez, Tori Amos, Paul McCartney & Wings have cemented his place in the upper echelons of music royalty.
Timo Maas’ ability to move with the times, but at the same time not adhere to trends is a true testament to his artistic direction. Not conforming, but always at hand to give the dancefloor what they want and often what they didn’t know they needed. For our next edition of our podcast series we are delighted to welcome Timo and ever the consummate professional he has delivered a live recording from his recent set at Control Club in Bucharest. To pigeon-hole Timo’s set would be beyond redundant, his 3 hour plus ride covers a wide spectrum of sounds all tailored for the floor. Having been there since the beginning of modern club culture Timo Maas bends and shapes his style from deep and soulful to upfront and synth heavy, this is what makes him one of our scene’s true originators.
