Vir Festival returns this August with another carefully considered programme, continuing its low key, community driven approach in the South of North Macedonia. Taking place on August 14-15th, the gathering settles into a new setting at Toplik, a former basin turned urban park that offers a calm, open landscape centred around a lake and framed by dense greenery.
Set among maple trees on the outskirts of Gevgelija, the location plays a central role in shaping the festival’s identity. Even in the height of summer, the shaded surroundings soften the intensity, allowing dancers to move between music, rest and exploration at their own pace. The intention remains clear: to integrate with the natural environment without overwhelming it, keeping the landscape as the primary focus.
At the top of the bill sits S.A.M, one of the more influential figures within the deeper end of the European circuit. As part of the Mandar trio, their sound has long balanced emotional depth with infectious grooves built on a foundation of timeless house music.
Also featured is Monile, a Moroccan selector with strong ties to both Barcelona and Berlin. Her approach leans into minimal structures and sensual club music, with a clear focus on vinyl and a growing catalogue of productions. Her sets tend to move patiently, drawing from house and techno with a delicate touch that suits Vir’s pace.
The wider lineup reflects the collective’s ongoing commitment to platforming regional and emerging artists alongside more established names. Acts such as Lerro, Vasko, Denny Trajkov and YOTA sit alongside g.hn, Batka, Aki, Mande, Yell, Firma and Rtikenc, forming a programme that stays rooted in the local underground.
Previous editions have welcomed artists like XDB and HearThug, but the focus has consistently remained on building a space for connection rather than scale. That ethos continues here, with Toplik providing a new canvas for the festival to evolve without losing its core identity.
With its combination of natural surroundings, measured programming and community focus, Vir Festival offers a different pace to the peak season calendar, one that prioritises atmosphere and continuity over spectacle.
