What began as a birthday party for Bruno Curtis in a small bar called Vlkova26, Round UP has now expanded to become a revered promoter known for bringing the cream of minimal music to all corners of Europe.
Bruno tells Trommel how it all began, “To be really honest we owe everything to the owner of that bar, Claudio. At the time in Prague, our style of music wasn’t really popular. Claudio and his bar, Vlkova26 gave us a gateway to explore a new style of music and to be able to bring names that at the time were unusual to the Czech crowd.” That was 3 years ago and to celebrate those years of hard work Round UP have one hell of a tour on the cards.
Beginning next month, the first event on the 6-date tour will kick off on Friday, 8th February – Round UP invites Petre Inspirescu. Taking place in Prague, support will come from the Round UP duo of ANBC (Bruno Curtis & Alex Neivel) and Agustín Álvarez. The following month Round UP will be getting more stamps in their passport when they visit Istanbul on Friday, March 15th. Providing the soundtrack at the joint Round UP X MU Istanbul event will be Romanian artist du jour Barac, Bruno Curtis and Seko.
On Friday, 29th March the tour rolls into Prague for the home town celebrations of 3 years of Round UP and the joint party with ReSolute will see sets from Sonja Moonear, Shonky and Francesco del Garda in a 2nd World War bunker of all places. Next up is a Parisian showdown between RA+RE and Round UP on Saturday, 13th April, the line-up is yet to be announced but I have a feeling that it will blow the socks off of Paris.
Edging ever closer to summer heralds the arrival of the big guns and on Friday, May 10th they don’t get much bigger than Round UP Presents Cocoon showcase with Sven Vath, Ilario Alicante, Andre Galuzzi and Bruno Curtis at Prague Pavilion.
The penultimate date on this sprawling schedule on Friday, 31st May will see Botánica inviting Round UP for a big warehouse event in Stockholm with a surprise line up. Again, take it from us you will not be disappointed by the artists on show that night.
Rounding out this European journey and will see Round UP officially kick start most people’s summer plans with their annual OffWeek gathering on Wednesday, June 12th in Barcelona. There is no further information on this event at present, but you can be sure we will be the first to let you in on all the juicy details when they become available.
As well as their blockbusting parties, Round UP is now dipping their toe in the immersive world of record label management and their vinyl only RUP Records imprint will also serve as a platform for live and DJ duo ANBC.
Being a project where micro-house meets jazz, classical, synths and electro even at times, there will be a broad musical freedom for the pair to explore their sound. It will be this pairing of Bruno Curtis and Russian artist Alex Neivel that will be providing the maiden release for RUR Records later in the year, so keep your eyes peeled for more information on these very pages.
In the meantime, the lads have been busy in the studio and are offering their track “Zeema” as a free download exclusively through these very pages. Don’t say we’re not good to you.
