Sicily’s Mare Festival finalise 2023 lineup with a tasteful mix of selectors

Mare Festival is a unique curation of music and art in the blissful surroundings of Sicily.

Honouring Sicily’s serene and vibrant nature, the showcase will head to the coastal grounds of Baia Di Macari on August 10-11th. Inspired by the local culture, their vision is to ‘mix the rhythms of Sicilian art, places and culture with electronic music’.

Artists will be invited to unfold in the environment for an extended 35-hour trip. Surrounded by blissful Italian nature, speakers are placed between breathtaking views to create a magic combination of music and natural beauty.

Representing Europe’s sleek and sultry music community is a unique selection of artists. Binh brings the heat with his bottomless bag of gems. The Perlon artist has firmly established himself within these realms, consistently surprising dance floors with the most obscure and moving club music.

Joining him in the house-meets-techno palate are the Italian legends behind Slow Life. Laurine and Cecilio are two of the most devoted vinyl diggers around, blending old and new music alongside one another, covering decades of dance music’s history in their sets.

Their prolific label is a testament to the health of contemporary club culture, pushing an array of new artists inspired by the raw vibe of the 90s, merging with the sound of today. Witnessing the duo in their motherland is destined to be special.

Another interesting back-to-back comes from two of house music’s most in-demand artists, Shonky and Traumer. The Apollonia don has been setting the scene inside groove-obsessed bombs, stunning dance floors with both his selections and his infectious positivity behind the decks.

Traumer is arguably equally as influential at this point, propelling into the mixer with his mesmeric productions, firmly backed by his DJ sets bringing big energy to clubs around the globe.

Berlin-based legend Cinthie is also on the bill. Between her many decade-spanning projects and the infamous Elevate Record store, her influence on club music is monumental. Plucking gems from old and new, her educational, elegant sets are always a treat.

Looking back at Italy’s rich rave culture, Mare festival invites the veteran selector Francesco Farfa. The true deejay’s DJ has been refining his craft since the 90s, taking turntablism to a whole new level. Seeing the veteran expressing in his motherland is going to be magic.

The 35-hour music policy encourages this devoted selection of artists to stretch out over long sets. House music hero Robert Owens is the next unique booking invited to bring his Chicago heat.

With releases dating back to 1986, Owen’s presence in dance music has never faded. His genre-founding work with Larry Heard and Frankie Knuckles, particularly the unforgettable ‘Tears‘ track is etched in the memories of many ravers around the world. The US legend is still releasing music today and is coming to Mare with decades of experience.

Honouring the rich culture, many local artists will feature across the weekend. Check out the full line-up here:
